One of five copies bound in Chinese red leather that were made for the film’s principals: screenwriter Robert Towne, lead actor Jack Nicholson, publisher Maurice Neville, editor James Pepper, and Marcia Jacobs whose inspiraton the book was. The five copies were signed by Towne and Nicholson, who also inscribed Marcia Jacobs's copy on the colophon page. "Chinatown" is widely acknowledged as one of the finest films made and the book includes a suite of photographs of scenes from the film. Laid in is a typed note from the editor, laying out the history of the book's publication. Housed in a custom-made clamshell box. Fine.
